The Boys Are Ready for the Game

Pooch Fans!I’m getting ready to do a few quick chores, and then watch the Oilers game on TV.  As you can see, the pups are wearing their jerseys too.  They also have Oiler collars, leashes, and tags too (of course!)  Might as well spread the fanaticism!  We gave our tickets to the game to our next door neighbor.  It’s cold and nasty out, and hubby and I would just as soon plop our fat asses on our comfy couches, open a beer, and watch it at home.  The Oilers have been playing very well as of late!  They’re pretty much mathematically out of the playoffs even if they went on a tremendous winning streak.  It’s still great fun to watch all the rookies, like Sam Gagner, Andrew Cogliano, Robert Nilsson, Tom Gilbert, etc.  They’re really thriving with all the added ice time due to all our injuries.  Yesterday the Oilers had their annual skills competition, and they sold it out!!  Unbelievable, the support of this team, even in the bad times!  The even raised $75,000 for charity. Go Oil!!

After the game, of course, we’ll have to watch Big Brother, with hopes that it starts to get more interesting.  It looks like this week, Allison and Ryan start to get closer.  That would serve that lying Jen brat right!  hehe

Huh??

Good gawd!  We watched the Oiler game last night of course, and it was BRUTAL! They had such a great home stand, winning 4 of 5, and climbing back up into fight position for a playoff spot, then they lose a stinker to Washington after a 12 round shoot out, and last night they lost to Carolina 7-2!!  They played horrible!  The only players that showed up were the kids!  The vets totally bailed and Garon was average at best.

It’s hard work being an Oiler fan.  They can get you on such an extreme high in such a state of hope, as they’re a very exciting team when they’re on.  Then they can pull a stinker, and make you think they’ll never make the playoffs again!  Gah!

A Day

Today was pretty darn good at work.  Not too many complaints.  I kicked a bench in the bedroom on Sunday, and Monday morning when I woke up, I could hardly walk!!  Thankfully it was much better with a shoe on.  Today it was quite a bit better, but very sore by the time I got supper cooking, and laundry finished after work.  We watched the Oilers game, and it sucked!!  Man, they just can’t seem to keep it together.  Just when I think they’re over the injury plague, and doing great, they throw out a stinker!

Randomness

Oiler Home JerseysThis is the Oiler’s new home jersey.  H*A*T*E*!!  It looks like a practice jersey at best, and it somehow looks robotic, like robocop would don it.  Most Edmonton fans love the retro jerseys the best, and were perfectly happy with the latest ones as well.  I know there were no options but to go to RBK style jerseys league-wide, but they certainly could have done “more” with them!  I’m very disappointed in these, and hopefully no one buys any, and they’ll try again.  First Oiler pre-season game tonight!  Whoo Hoo!  Can’t wait to see Sam Gagner play!!

I didn’t get a darn thing done this weekend which makes me very “crabby” going back to work with my house such a train wreck!  I was “lazy” on Saturday, and then Sunday I felt like garbage with some kind of stomach ailment. So off to another hectic week!

The Emmy’s were fairly enjoyable last night.  I enjoy the red carpet part as much as the actual awards.  The only dresses I hated that leap to mind were Vanessa Williams green feathered muppet look, and Hayden P’s puffy, yucky colored thing.

I also have to say “Send that damn murdering O.J. Simpson to jail for once and for all!!”  I can’t believe he ever got off on the murder charges, and I just hope he gets locked up now for all he’s done!

Time to zip off to work!!

Mooooooose

With my complete and utter disgust at the Oilers trading away Ryan Smyth, I never took the time to mention that Mark Messier’s famous #11 was retired and lifted to the rafters the same day Smytty was traded. It was still a great ceremony, but the disgust of the “fans” was just barely contained. Kevin Lowe wisely stayed behind the scenes, so as not to cause a scene. We gave our tickets to Sarah and Jay, as we just were not in the mood to go. It was really cool though because the whole Oilers’ team wore the old retro uniforms. Sadly the hockey game itself sucked monkey balls

Bye Smitty

This picture says it all. To people who are not sports fanatics, it’s hard to understand the depths of emotion that this sudden and out of the blue trade has created. I’ve seen this man get two teeth knocked out in the first period, go get stitched up, and be back on the ice for the second period. He and his wife have done tons of charity work around Edmonton. They are especially active in raising funds for the children’s hospital that Sarah works in. He personally attended a lady’s 100th birthday, let her run her fingers through his “signature mullet”, and presented her with a jersey with the #100 on the back. They interviewed her today to see what she thought about the trade.

I also feel horrible for the remaining team. They were not only completely blindsided by the news, but have lost a good friend, and are left to play the remaining 20 games without their best player. The heart and soul of the Oilers is gone. For that reason I’m still going to go to some of the remaining games, to support the remaining team. These guys didn’t ask for this either.

One thing I can say, is that it will be very interesting to see which Oiler steps up to fill his big skates! Once we see what KLowe does in the off-season, we’ll decide if we’re going to renew our season tickets. If it seems that the same old pattern of raising stars, and selling them off for other teams to reap the rewards, I’m over it. I’m done.

Ryan Smyth #94

This news just broke my heart! It also pissed me off royally!! They’ve not only tossed in the towel on the rest of this season, but they shipped off the heart and soul of the Oilers. The one guy who wanted to stay here, and was married to a woman who loves it here! (unlike some players who shall remain faceless) We’re SO MAD, that we gave Sarah our tickets for tonights Mark Messier jersey retirement night! It just sucks. It’s as bad as the day they sold Gretzky! We’re so fed up with the Oilers selling off their franchise players, that we’re very seriously considering not renewing our seasons tickets. And that’s PISSED!

Sign Ryan!

Things are heating up in Oiler headquarters! Rumour has it that they have offered Ryan a $30 million dollar 6 year contract. I sure hope he signs! Rumour also has it, that they will give him the captain title as well. He deserves all of it!

My Second Love

Everyone knows me, knows that I LOVE my “kids”. I love my “cats”, and I also LOVE my “Oilers”! Obviously, if you love the Oilers, you love Ryan Smyth more than anyone else! He is the heart and soul of the Edmonton Oilers. He is grittier than any other player I’ve watched. Knock his teeth out.. he’ll be back! Break his ankle, he’ll be back weeks ahead of schedule! Break his thumb, he’ll still lead the team in points, and he’ll still make it as an “All Star” for the first time in his career. How can that be????

Yay!

Thank goodness! The Oilers have won their last 2 games. They had been losing BADLY, yet playing “fairly well” for quite a while. If they don’t pull up their socks, they won’t even make it to the playoffs. But last night they kicked some Duck butt! Of course Pronger is injured, so he wasn’t here to sneer and boo at. Neither of us felt up to going to the game, so we gave the tickets to Ben and a buddy. Jarret Stoll got his head driven into the boards, broke his nose, and likely suffered from a slight concussion, and the whole play got missed by the refs. He was out for the game, and he’s been one of our best players all year. Hemsky was also out from the cheap shot on him in the last game.

Well as little as I feel like it, I best get my arse moving, pack my lunch, and head off to work. I have a home visit this afternoon, so I have to get prepped for that.
