Success
Well I’ve had a very successful couple of weeks at work. This is my little man. It took a couple of weeks of easing him into the room, with Mom staying. The more he warmed up to me, the less time he spent looking for Mom. Then Mom started by saying she was taking the baby out for a walk, and would stay out a while, and before you know it, he didn’t look for her at all. The next day, she brought him as usual, and said, “I’m going home to put baby down for a nap.” He just mumbled “Bye Mom”, and he didn’t blink. He gradually got more and more interested in what the other kids were doing, and before we knew it, he’s sitting with the other kids, in his chair, in circle! Previously he was VERY fearful of the kids, and always distanced himself from them. Yesterday he even sat at snack table with the kids. He’s doing great!
My little girl in the morning group is also doing fantastic! Her Mom can also just bring her and leave now. Progress with her “participation” has been much slower, but yesterday for the very first time, after weeks, of coaxing and coaching, she signed “more” to me at snack time. That was a huge break-through! It’s going to be a tougher challenge with her, as she is completely non-verbal and a very stubborn little one. I’m certain she’s got some form of autism. I go to her house this morning for a home visit, and to the little boy’s house this afternoon for one.
We have a hockey game to got to tonight, and that should be great fun. The team is really exciting this year, with all the young players we have. Then tomorrow, one of Sarah’s oldest friends (neighbors when the girls were 18 months old until they were in grade 4) is getting married, and we’re going to the wedding. It will be a big one, as they have a huge French family! Should be fun though, seeing some friends we haven’t seen for a long time! They made the trip down to Sarah’s wedding which we really appreciated!
