Another Weekend Kaputzky!

I was hopelessly lazy on Saturday, with the exception of doing some laundry and some tidying up. Yesterday I made up for it though. I cleaned the whole house, and caught up on paperwork and the school website. I thought I better update the website, as at an administrator’s meeting, it was mentioned as an excellent example of how they’d like all the schools in the district to work towards getting their own school websites done. My design isn’t anything so great, it’s just a simple MT template done in the school colors, with an overhead picture of the school as the header. It’s powered by moveabletype, so it’s easy as pie to update, and I have a school photo gallery set up as well. Nothing fancy, it’s just that many of the other schools have very old school design like us beginners used to do 8 years ago on Geocities!

The kids came out for dinner yesterday, but didn’t hang around too long. Nothing too new going on with any of them right now.

Tonight is sign language class. I spent an hour or so practicing yesterday, and think I’m good to go. Most of this is review for me, so that helps. I’d hate to be one of the total newbies, because we’ve learned 204 new signs in 2 classes. ACK!

Wedded Bliss

Our old neighbor’s daughter, whom we’ve known since she and Sarah were 18 months old, got married yesterday. They all came to Sarah’s wedding, and we were all invited to theirs. The wedding was a full Catholic mass, and was an hour and 20 minutes long!!! GAH!! Then we had 3 hours to kill before cocktails. We just came back to the house and hubby, Jay and Sarah watched a movie, and I had a nap!

The meal was fabulous, the speeches entertaining, the slideshow very nicely done, and the DJ was great. We danced quite a bit, and had a great time catching up with old friends and neighbors!

Today I’ve been a total lump! This old lady can’t party and dance like she used to!

Success

Well I’ve had a very successful couple of weeks at work. This is my little man. It took a couple of weeks of easing him into the room, with Mom staying. The more he warmed up to me, the less time he spent looking for Mom. Then Mom started by saying she was taking the baby out for a walk, and would stay out a while, and before you know it, he didn’t look for her at all. The next day, she brought him as usual, and said, “I’m going home to put baby down for a nap.” He just mumbled “Bye Mom”, and he didn’t blink. He gradually got more and more interested in what the other kids were doing, and before we knew it, he’s sitting with the other kids, in his chair, in circle! Previously he was VERY fearful of the kids, and always distanced himself from them. Yesterday he even sat at snack table with the kids. He’s doing great!

My little girl in the morning group is also doing fantastic! Her Mom can also just bring her and leave now. Progress with her “participation” has been much slower, but yesterday for the very first time, after weeks, of coaxing and coaching, she signed “more” to me at snack time. That was a huge break-through! It’s going to be a tougher challenge with her, as she is completely non-verbal and a very stubborn little one. I’m certain she’s got some form of autism. I go to her house this morning for a home visit, and to the little boy’s house this afternoon for one.

We have a hockey game to got to tonight, and that should be great fun. The team is really exciting this year, with all the young players we have. Then tomorrow, one of Sarah’s oldest friends (neighbors when the girls were 18 months old until they were in grade 4) is getting married, and we’re going to the wedding. It will be a big one, as they have a huge French family! Should be fun though, seeing some friends we haven’t seen for a long time! They made the trip down to Sarah’s wedding which we really appreciated!

Goodbye Gator!

Tonight I went to the Oilers vs. Philadelphia game with my brother. We went out to dinner first. I don’t think we’ve ever gone to a game together. It was a great game! The 2 Flyers that we got, Pitkanen and Sanderson played great against their former team! Really nice to see from those 2, as they came with a lot of question marks!

The best part of the evening, was that right before the singing of the national anthems, The Oilers did a tribute to Jason Smith, our former captain who got traded in the off-season. He was on the ice at the time, and it was a really nice video tribute to he, and his wife for all they did for the organization and the community. He got a huge standing ovation, and looked really moved. It was so nice to see, as we all hated to see him go!! Lupul on the other hand, got booed, which was no surprise, as he was fortunate not to get booed here last year when he was ON the team! hehe

Now I’m waiting for hubby to get home. He went to see “Rain” with Sarah. She bought the tickets for him for his birthday. I hope they had a good time!

Tomorrow we’re off to Mom’s for Thanksgiving dinner. All of us, except Jay will be there, as he is down at the farm to finish harvest.

Gargle, Gargle

I’m honestly online just as much as ever, and read and comment on your blogs all the time, but still seem to neglect updating my own!  Part of it is that I do a lot of my paid posts, and then I think I’ve “updated”, but since I don’t do paid blogging on this website, I tend to forget!

I was feeling kind of blah, all week, overly tired, weak and achy.  Nothing serious.  By Saturday, I had a sore throat, and precious little energy.  That didn’t stop me from going to the last Oiler’s pre-season game.  We went for dinner, and then to the game, and managed to have a good time.  Yesterday morning, hubby had to go into work for a few hours, and he felt like CRAP!  He had a stomach thing going on, similar to what I had 2 weeks ago.  I was still fighting a scratchy, annoying throat, with a cough coming on.

BrettonWe had plans to go out with all the kids for dinner, and then to an Edmonton Oil Kings (WHL) game to cheer on one of Ben’s good friends, and former soccer and hockey teammates, as he’s been named captain of the EOK.  Sadly neither of us felt up to it at all, so Ben, Jess, and 2 of their friends went instead.  They had a really good time, even though the Oil Kings played horribly!

Work has been insane, wild, you name it! It was full moon last week, and it left its affects with the little people I’m telling you!  Geesh!  I am happy to say though, that my little Sam in the afternoons, is now happy and comfortable enough with me, that Mom can say “Goodbye,” and leave with no fuss.  What an improvement from the boy who screamed bloody murder the entire time he was in our classroom with BOTH parents!  His Mom is thrilled beyond words. She thought it would take months!  We did a home visit at his house on Friday, and we also got him to do things with us that he’s never done before.  Mom told me, that the only reason she thinks the transition went as well as it did, is because of me.  Awww… nice to get a pat on the back from those who matter most.  Now if she’d go tell the principal that!  hahaha

Well time to get rolling into work.  Today’s going to be a long one, as I have a 3 hour sign language course from 6:30-9:30 every Monday night for the next 6 weeks.
