The Week Past

It’s been a very busy week!  Work is INSANE man! I’m working with the 2 most difficult children. In the morning it’s a little 3 year old girl, who is not diagnosed yet, but I’d bet the farm that she’s autistic.  She most just growls and makes odd noises.  Very few words.  She is terrorized when her Mom leaves her, and nothing much soothes her.  So, we have Mom bringing her in later for a shorter day, and then staying with her.  She’s getting really used to me now, and the crying has diminished significantly over this past week.  Mom comes and goes out of the room for just a few minutes at a time, and then comes back, reinforcing the fact that eventually Mom will come and pick her up.

In the afternoon I work with another little boy who has similar tendencies.  He’s got a very severe sensory disorder, so that’s a lot of what we are battling.  His mom has been working on getting him into the classroom for 2 weeks!  I used to have to kind of bait him in.  Bringing him closer and closer to the class, luring him with some toy he wanted.  Now he walks right into the classroom without any nonsense.  Mom still has to stay, but he’s really super comfortable with me now, and runs and hugs me, and crawls all over me, giggles with me, etc, so I don’t think it will be too long  before he will be ready to be left.

We had a professional development day yesterday, so no classes.  The puppies and I slept in, and then I went and met everyone at the golf club for a staff lunch, and then we watched the movie,  The Secret .  I’m not sure what I think about it all, but it certainly makes a person think about the powers of positive thinking.  After that, I went shopping.  I had really good luck!!  Spent way too much money, but that’s nothing new.  If I find stuff that fits, and that I like, I tend to buy it, because it doesn’t happen all that often!  I even found a dress to wear to a wedding we have in October!

Sarah got hit by a city bus the other day.  Lots of damage to her SUV, but fortunately not to her!  Ben’s doing another remote for the radio station, so he’s really stoked about that!

Randomness

Oiler Home JerseysThis is the Oiler’s new home jersey.  H*A*T*E*!!  It looks like a practice jersey at best, and it somehow looks robotic, like robocop would don it.  Most Edmonton fans love the retro jerseys the best, and were perfectly happy with the latest ones as well.  I know there were no options but to go to RBK style jerseys league-wide, but they certainly could have done “more” with them!  I’m very disappointed in these, and hopefully no one buys any, and they’ll try again.  First Oiler pre-season game tonight!  Whoo Hoo!  Can’t wait to see Sam Gagner play!!

I didn’t get a darn thing done this weekend which makes me very “crabby” going back to work with my house such a train wreck!  I was “lazy” on Saturday, and then Sunday I felt like garbage with some kind of stomach ailment. So off to another hectic week!

The Emmy’s were fairly enjoyable last night.  I enjoy the red carpet part as much as the actual awards.  The only dresses I hated that leap to mind were Vanessa Williams green feathered muppet look, and Hayden P’s puffy, yucky colored thing.

I also have to say “Send that damn murdering O.J. Simpson to jail for once and for all!!”  I can’t believe he ever got off on the murder charges, and I just hope he gets locked up now for all he’s done!

Time to zip off to work!!

Oops!

I seem to keep forgetting to keep forgetting to update around here!  Last week was obviously a very busy one for me, getting back into the routine of working full time again.  It’s rather a rude shock to my system for the first couple of weeks. Work is going pretty well.  I am in grade 3 in the morning with 30 8 year olds, and then I’m back in the preschool in the afternoon.  I definitely got the easier of the 2 preschool classes, as the morning group is a lot more difficult to handle from what I hear.

Hubby got good news last week.  He got transferred back into Edmonton, to a store just 10 minutes from our house!  He’s been driving to the town where my Mom lives (about a 45 minute highway drive) for the past year.  It doesn’t sound long, but an hour and a half in the car every day, after a 10 hour work day, makes for long days, and especially driving in the winter.  It’s also going to save us a LOT of money on gas!

I got good news too!  Payroll called to tell me that they had been underpaying my vacation pay by 2% since 2004, so I got around $1000 retroactive pay today!  Score!  Greatly appreciated after 2 months of unemployment!

Kids are all doing great!  Jess has already been approached at work about taking on more responsibility!  Ben goes back to school in about 5 weeks time.  Jay is back home with Sarah now, going back to university.  Sarah’s been busy helping the group pack up equipment and sterilize equipment in preparation for the trip to Ecuador.

Pups are doing well too!

Jess & Her New Kitty, Omar

It’s been a fairly quiet weekend. Hubby has been around as he’s on holidays. We’ve just been sitting out in the evenings with the pups, enjoying fires in the backyard. The kids and my brother came out for a great BBQ roast supper last night, and to watch Big Brother 8.

Ben and Jess got a new kitty. His name is Omar. As long as I don’t have to kitty sit!!

At noon, we’re meeting Ben and Jess at the horse races in the sky paddock. Going to enjoy some good food and drinks, and hopefully win a fortune! ha!
