Bye Smitty

This picture says it all. To people who are not sports fanatics, it’s hard to understand the depths of emotion that this sudden and out of the blue trade has created. I’ve seen this man get two teeth knocked out in the first period, go get stitched up, and be back on the ice for the second period. He and his wife have done tons of charity work around Edmonton. They are especially active in raising funds for the children’s hospital that Sarah works in. He personally attended a lady’s 100th birthday, let her run her fingers through his “signature mullet”, and presented her with a jersey with the #100 on the back. They interviewed her today to see what she thought about the trade.

I also feel horrible for the remaining team. They were not only completely blindsided by the news, but have lost a good friend, and are left to play the remaining 20 games without their best player. The heart and soul of the Oilers is gone. For that reason I’m still going to go to some of the remaining games, to support the remaining team. These guys didn’t ask for this either.

One thing I can say, is that it will be very interesting to see which Oiler steps up to fill his big skates! Once we see what KLowe does in the off-season, we’ll decide if we’re going to renew our season tickets. If it seems that the same old pattern of raising stars, and selling them off for other teams to reap the rewards, I’m over it. I’m done.

Ryan Smyth #94

This news just broke my heart! It also pissed me off royally!! They’ve not only tossed in the towel on the rest of this season, but they shipped off the heart and soul of the Oilers. The one guy who wanted to stay here, and was married to a woman who loves it here! (unlike some players who shall remain faceless) We’re SO MAD, that we gave Sarah our tickets for tonights Mark Messier jersey retirement night! It just sucks. It’s as bad as the day they sold Gretzky! We’re so fed up with the Oilers selling off their franchise players, that we’re very seriously considering not renewing our seasons tickets. And that’s PISSED!

Monday - UGH

For someone who spends countless hours online, I sure tend to forget to blog! It’s not even that I forget so much, but I just don’t have much going on these days!

The flowers shown here are lily-sorbonnes and Sarah is going to have 4 of them, with some pink roses, and a little greenery for her bouquet. The bridesmaids will have one lily, with roses. You can also see pictures of the little country church in my Flickr. It has a huge ass ugly, plain white wall at the front, so we will be draping that with pink and white fabric. We’ve got 2 pedestals for the 2 arrangements ordered, as well as a big, candelabra. We will need to make 28 pew bows, as there are 3 rows of pews (2 aisles). I don’t think we’ll use an aisle runner, as I have visions of tripping down the aisle, but maybe that’s just me.

Ben is finished with his schooling now, and just this moment left for work. Having him back home is not “great”, but not “horrible”. It’s not great when I go to leave for work, and he’s parked behind me in the driveway. Hubby thinks it’s not great when his remotes have been “moved”. It’s not “great” when we’re enjoying a nice, quiet evening, and he appears unexpected. It’s not horrible to be able to chat with him (when he’s here) and find out what’s going on in his life, but it’s not great when you get more information than you want!! It sounds like he’ll be moving out in May with his buddy. Probably sub-letting Jay’s condo. Time will tell.

Well it’s time to finish getting ready and head to work. Wednesday is team meeting day, so no kids. Friday is a PD day for teachers, so no school for me. Tomorrow night is a hockey game, and it’s also Mark Messier’s jersey retirement ceremony, so that should be fun. Thursday night is another hockey game, so I’m glad I don’t have to work on Friday. My poor Oilers are playing very well in spite of a ton of injuries, even though they’re not getting the results. Playoff hopes are slim, but at least they’re entertaining to watch now!

Fly??

Yesterday during story time, our SLP was reading a story, and having the children act it out. Near the end of the story, she reads “….the toboggan hit a bump, and the kids flew through the air….” Little A, got this incredibly serious, and incredulous look on her face, and said, “Kids can’t fly!!” I snickered like crazy, because the way she said it so seriously, and in complete disbelief, as if that SLP was the stupidest woman on this earth!

Sarah & Ben

This is back in the day when they were still cute. I’ve been working on the slideshow for 3 days non-stop this weekend. I feel like a shut-in. I have the headache, and stiff neck from hell from working so damn much! I’m going to have to do a lot of cuts to it though, because it’s going to get too long once I add Jay’s family pictures. What can I say?? I took lots of pictures of the girl growing up! heh I’ve already cut all kinds from the ones I scanned. The good thing is that I have 5 months left to edit it! I’ll actually be glad to have to go to work tomorrow and get out of this HOUSE!

Ben left the house quite early this morning. His band had their third gig tonight. They opened for Those Damn Coyotes at Filthy McNasties. Am I proud? I’m not sure. Hubby wanted to go and hear them, but I didn’t really think we’d “fit in” at Filthy’s. LMAO

Mad Hawaiian

This picture just makes me laugh! It’s hard to imagine that this little cry baby is the daughter that’s going to get married in 5 1/2 months time! I’ve been having a grand time digging through old photos and scanning them. Brings back so many memories. Christmas, birthday parties, camping trips, sports, and more sports. Reminds me of how very busy we used to be!!

Sarah and Jay just left after dropping off Miles for the week, so Stanley is a happy cat. If they misbehave at night, I’m just going to lock them down in the basement to bother Ben! heh

Ben left for work a couple of hours ago, he’s doing the Oilers broadcast tonight, so he had to go in a little bit early. Hubby called, and he’s on his way home soon, and hopefully will get here in time to watch the game!

Centerpieces

You can’t tell by the picture, but these centerpieces we created tonight are actually very pretty and sparkly. In the picture they just look like a mess! heh The mirrors that we will be using for the wedding are a lot bigger, so things won’t be so crowded. We have 26 of these to make. We also came up with a design for pew bows that we love. I took pictures of those too, but they look like crap in the pictures too, but honestly are very pretty in person. We have about a dozen of those to make, but we already made 3. Sarah’s personalized cocktail napkins also arrived, and they’re very nice.

Well the kids were here for dinner, and just left, so I’m going to go watch the Oiler game with the old boy.

Out for a Drive

Two elderly women were out driving in a large car - both could barely see over the dashboard.  As they were cruising along, they came to an intersection.  The stoplight was red, but they just went on through.
The woman in the passenger seat thought to herself “I must be losing it.  I could have sworn we just went through a red light.” After a few more minutes, they came to another intersection and the light was red again.  Again, they went right through.  The woman in the passenger seat was almost sure that the light had been red but was really concerned that she was losing it.  She was getting nervous.  At the next intersection, sure enough, the light was red and they went on through.  So, she turned to the other woman and said, Mildred, did you know that we just ran through three red lights in a row?
You could have killed us both!”
Mildred turned to her and said, “Oh, crap, am I driving ?”
