Movies in Bed

I’ve watched a couple of movies while I’ve been home sick this week. Two that I was really looking forward to seeing. First I watched “You, Me and Dupree.” I love Kate Hudson, so I thought this would be great. It was okay, but not near as good as I thought! Yesterday, I watched “The Devil Wears Prada”. I really enjoyed this movie! Meryl Streep was a hoot!

I’m Home

Well I’m home from the doctor’s office. He gave me a lung function test, and it turns out that I don’t have asthma, and I’ve just een unlucky enough to get sick twice this year! BUT when I was there and he was checking things out, it turns out that my blood pressure was scary high. So, I have to go have a bunch of blood tests and another ECG and then go back again in 2 weeks to have my pressure checked. Hmmmph I certainly wasn’t expecting THAT!

Damn Wind!

The wind is absolutely howling today! I hear that some more snow is expected as well. I stayed home again today because there is no school tomorrow due to a PD day, so I have a doctor’s appointment at 10:00 am. Hopefully he can give me something that can kick this damn cough to the curb! I woke up at 5:00 am coughing so hard that my back and ribs are all sore today too. Such an old wreck!

10 Things You’d Like To Change About Your Country

1. The fact that Quebec wants to separate from the rest of Canada.
2. Bring in a law that prevents people from smoking in their vehicles when they have children in the car.
3. If people are on social assistance, they should not be allowed to spend the money on cigarettes, booze or BINGO. If you’re having hard times, we will help you. We will not have you waste our money on that shit.
4. I’d like to see Unions have WAY less power. Now if you hire an asshole, it’s almost impossible to get rid of them! If you’re doing your job, the promotions will come to you. You shouldn’t get them just because you’ve managed to squeak through longer than the next guy.
5. Start pumping money back into the school systems. The buildings are getting old and gross, the books are outdated, the classes are overcrowded.
6. Give some power back to the teachers when it comes to disciplining kids. You know those kids you see on Nanny 911? They exist. They are in our schools. If parents won’t handle their kids, then allow the schools to discipline them.
7. Take away all the comforts provided to prisoners. I figure if you did the crime, do the time. It is supposed to be punishment. Not worrying about your rights. If you can’t live by the laws of society, you don’t have the right to a plasma TV.
8. Neuter all sex offenders, child molesters and predators. They can NOT be rehabilitated to any point that would make me feel comfortable with them around children or women.
9. Change the laws regarding domestic violence. Don’t wait for a woman to end up knocking on death’s door BEFORE you do something. If you “think” something’s going on…. ask questions AFTER you haul the guy’s ass off to jail.
10. Do something about this weather!

SAG Awards Red Carpet

I’m watching a delayed telecast of the SAG awards red carpet special. It’s so amusing to me how the women “pose”. I swear to gawd that Nicolette Sheridan has been standing in the same spot posing and pouting, and flicking her hair for 20 minutes! How gaggy! Some women just seem to stand and look beautiful, while others are doing the whole model thing. Most of them are wearing “nude” colored dresses, and I don’t get how that color is flattering to most colour types! Oh well. What the hell do I know!? I’m laying at home sick in bed in my nightie!

Sign Ryan!

Things are heating up in Oiler headquarters! Rumour has it that they have offered Ryan a $30 million dollar 6 year contract. I sure hope he signs! Rumour also has it, that they will give him the captain title as well. He deserves all of it!

Happy Birthday!

My baby boy turned 20 years old today! How did that happen?? I’m so proud of the young man he’s become! He’s responsible, hard working, and he has dreams, and he’s going for them! He treats Jess like gold, and I’m so proud to see that too. Even cooler, is he still loves to give his Mom hugs whenever he’s here. He has one wicked sense of humour too!

I was too sick to join in the festivities today. I was sick in bed all weekend with a damn cold. Work is not looking likely for tomorrow!

Friday Feast

Appetizer
If you could take lessons to learn any musical instrument, which would you want to learn?
I’d take guitar lessons again. I took them for years, and was actually very good, but I’m real rusty now, and it wouldn’t hurt to take more lessons.

Soup

Have you ever mistaken a person for someone else?
Ann Murray a couple of times.

Salad

On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being highest, how well do you keep secrets?
At least a 9.5.

Main Course
What’s the closest you’ve ever been to a dangerous animal?
Other than in a zoo, it was when I was reading gas meters for a living, and I opened a customer’s back gate, and got attacked by a St. Bernard. I’ve never been so scared in all my life!!

Dessert
When was the last time you lost your patience?
Likely on Thursday. I was losing my patience with one of the little kids at school.

Sick Again!

After 2 days of feeling queasy (could be because one of the little guys threw up all over the place), and 2 days of having a scratchy throat, I woke up today all congested and hardly able to talk. I’ve sure been sick a lot this year compared to normal! Hopefully this doesn’t develop into the cough thing again, as I barely just got over that never ending cough I had the last time. I do have a doctor’s appointment on Wednesday anyways, so I’m get him to see if I’ve got asthma. My guess is not, but my MOTHER keeps nagging me to go get checked.

Just as Bad As Expected

Ughh that conference was every bit as bad as I thought it would be! It was 2 LONG ass sessions. The first was a keynote speaker, who spoke about her experiences raising her daughter with Down syndrome, and how she taught her to read. It was interesting enough, but there was no real tangible information to use back in the classroom. The afternoon session was about Playing with Purpose, and while there were a few good tips and tricks, for the most part it was just telling us more of what we do, and the woman was too busy trying to “amuse” us. We left at 3:15, even though she wasn’t finished, so that we could beat the rush hour traffic. I’m also catching a cold, so I was sitting there with a scratchy throat most of the day. Blech!
