Monday

It’s almost chilly today! We’ve been having rain showers from time to time, and it’s windy and only about 60 degrees! It’s dropped over 30 degrees in a week! Crazy weather! Makes it easier to get things done at least!

Last night I went to bed around 10-11:00 pm. I laid there watching TV, wide awake until after 4:30 this morning!!! I’ve NEVER had insomnia that bad!!! I finally dozed a little bit between 5 & 6:00 am until hubby got up. I got a little more sleep after he left, but not very damn much! Thankfully I’m not working so it’s only ANNOYING, not a big deal.

I got the kitchen pantry all cleaned out today, so that looks about 300% better! It was quite a wreck! Then I went into town and bought paint for the living room/foyer/loft area. When I was checking out at the til, can you believe the girl whines to me, “I’ll just scan them, and you can lift them into the cart, because my back is so sore from all the lifting I’ve been doing!” I just looked at her like WTF, and put the cans in my cart. Me! I’m 48 years od, fat and arthritic, and she’s complaining to ME! Gawk! Kids!! World’s going to Hell in a hand basket when that generation takes over!

I went and picked up some groceries for supper, and then came home.

I’ve been SO bored, that I’ve actually been watching “Days of Our Lives” for the past week. I watched it for YEARS when I was a SAHM, but since I got all into the computer, I haven’t taken up watching it in the summers for the past few years. But let me say this…. I’ve been watching for a week, and they’re still on the same few hours!!! WTF!!??? IF I hear AJ tell Sammie one more time that she has to tell Austen, I’m going to HORK!

Finally!!

Hubby goes back to work after 2 weeks of us mostly sitting around like lumps, vegging, watching too much TV, drinking too much beer, avoiding the heat, and accomplishing NOTHING! The heat is gone, and I’m ready to get my ASS IN GEAR!! If he’s not in a productive mood, I hate to get all crazy working, because then he feels obligated to get up and get doing something, and what he really needed was to do NOTHING! He had only had a couple of days off since he got transferred. He needed to decompress, and I think he did.

The problem is, I’ve gone into SEVERE hibernation mode!! I have left this house approximately 4 times in one month! I went to the doctor one day, I went shopping one day, took Stanley to the vet, and I ran to the store one other day. I haven’t been inside the house the whole time, but I’ve been in the yard, or house since I finished work! I know it’s bizarre, but with hubby home for 2 weeks, he ran all the errands, that needed to be done. We didn’t go anywhere, so that’s what it was! I do this every summer. Now that hubby is going to get out of my hair, I’ll have to FORCE my ass away from here, and make a point of going somewhere every day, even if it’s for a walk. I can get so weird, that I hate to cross the street to get the mail! (I know….. call me psycho-fucked-up). I come from a long line of “home bodies”, so that’s definitely a part of it, and for 10 years, I ran constantly all summer long with Sarah’s summer skating, Ben’s soccer and summer hockey, their swimming lessons, my club meetings, it was insane. It’s like now I say Pfffffft….. I don’t have anywhere to go and no kids to run, or to get away from! This is the reason I keep working. I’d become a complete recluse if I didn’t have to go to work, and go to the Oiler games.

But enough of that shit! Sarah and Jay and Ben came out for dinner. Hubby BBQ’d a prime rib. They’ll be packing up Jay’s stuff tomorrow, and he gets his condo either tomorrow or Tuesday. I lent them a bunch of drop sheets and things for painting. His place is professionally, and recently renovated, but his bedroom had lovely words written around the perimeter of the room. Peace, Tranquility, Hope and the like… not a manly look at all! hehehe

Ben didn’t hear back from that job, so we’re assuming he didn’t get it, but he’s okay with that. He’s trying to sell his truck, and he has a guy coming to look at it tomorrow night. Then next weekend, he’s off to see Jessica in BC. (here we go again!) At least they took Miles home tonight. 4 cats is a little MUCH!! He and Stanley are so insane together, that they are just ripping around the house like a couple of demon kittens! They’re crazy man!!!

Well Done

Ben did a great job last night! Hated the music, but he sounded comfortable, relaxed and seemed to have a good voice on the air. Grandma and Grandpa even endured it to listen to him!

Last night hubby came up with his once a year zinger! He’s got a good sense of humour, but not a “quick wit”. I can come back with something almost instantly, most of the time, as can the kids, but hubby is not so much like that, but last night, I think he came up with his best one yet!

We had ordered pizza when Ben came over. He brought Miles. I locked all 4 cats up in my bedroom, otherwise it’s like eating in the middle of a pack of coyotes. When I came back downstairs to eat, hubby says, “I hope you turned your loptop off!” I looked at him like his was a fucking idiot, as did Ben, and I asked him, “Why???” He says, “They might be watching Kitty Porn!!!” LMAO Cracked me right UP!!

Tonight’s the NIGHT!!

Ben makes his guest DJ debut from 10-11 pm tonight. I guess I’ll get to hear more crotch talk and listen to terrible modern rock music, but that’s what a mother does. Just like when I used to go to Sarah’s rugby games, not understanding a damn thing!!! It’s one of those sacrifices! The “key” will be whether I can stay awake through it! I’ve been sleeping extremely poor, so who knows what kind of shape I’ll be in by then!

This morning it was a bit cooler after a good rain last night, so I got outside this morning and weeded the flower beds, pruned all the shrubs and flowers, and mowed the lawn. I did a little laundry, and that was enough to tucker me OUT!

Sarah & Jay’s Vacation

Sarah and Jay just got home yesterday from a week-long vacation to BC. They had a really good time! They stayed with different relatives of Jay’s the whole time, except for the night that they were in Vancouver.

Ben had his job interview for a different position yesterday. He will find out if he gets it or not, on Friday. Sarah too is applying for a couple of jobs in the operating room in the children’s hospital she works in. This weekend, Jay moves into the condo he just bought, so lots of changes ahead!

No changes for me! Still too hot for me, and I’m still sitting around doing very little because of it. Stanley learned how to get on the top of the fridge. I’m quite puzzled by that feat!!

My Son the DJ

Ben is working on getting into the Radio broadcasting course eventually at the tech school. He’ll have to upgrade some, so in the meantime, he’ll continue with his carpentry apprenticeship (he goes in January), and in September, we’ve got him registered in a couple of Radio related courses. He also volunteers as an intern, out doing promotions for a radio station in Edmonton.

This station has a guest DJ every week, and Ben is on the air for an hour on Thursday. He taped it last week. He said it was the best 20 minutes of his life! (no wonder Jess went home) So all week, they are running the promo for his segment. He just phoned me, and told me it was going to air at 3:45, so I endured 3 horrid songs, and finally it came on. It went like this:

Ben: Hey! My name is Ben ********, and I’m going to be on *******
Ben: I’m deathly afraid of air hockey! Because I’m so tall, my crotch is just the right height, for all the pucks that come flying over!
DJ: Hey Ben! Are you going to be talking about your crotch all night??
Ben: I sure hope not! I hadn’t planned on talking about my crotch at all!
DJ: Glad to hear it!

This is truly my proudest moment as a mother. Pfffffftttt

Wee Bit of Drama

I was rudely awakened at 1:00 am Sunday morning by the ringing of the telephone. It was Ben. He was REALLY upset! It seems that he found out “accidentally” that Jess had been fired from her job. (she was working for the same company as hubby, only a different store) Ben was LIVID, as well as miserable… asking me, “What do I do? I know I have to dump her, but what do I do??” I tried to calm him down, and told him to call her Mom in BC and get her Mom to talk to her, and tell her to come home. He phoned later, to tell me broke up with her, and she was having a panic attack. He was going nuts, trying to figure out how to calm her down. He quickly hung up, and I didn’t hear from him until he showed up here at the house yesterday afternoon, in tears, because he’d just dropped her off at the airport. He talked to me for a long time, telling me how much it “sucked”, and that she was such a nice girl, and he loved her so much, and why couldn’t she just get her shit together. She was giving him some time to think about whether he wanted to end it, or try long distance again.

Ben was really concerned that “the people he cares most about” (being hubby, Sarah, Jay and myself) would never respect her. I told him that I had nothing whatsoever against her. She’s a total sweetheart. I told him, that I’m now convinced she has emotional or mental problems, such as depression or something. Ben then told me that she’s been diagnosed with depression before, but I don’t think she’s on meds or anything. I told him that I thought he should strongly encourage her to go to a doctor and have a good check up, and maybe start going to a counsellor. At least now her Mom can take care of her. So I advised Ben to just take it day by day, that there was no reason he had to make an immediate decision, so he phoned her and told her that, and he seemed a lot better last night. He stayed out here, and slept in our basement. He didn’t want to go home to an empty condo, as Sarah and Jay have been on holidays in BC for the past week. She gets home later today, so I’m assuming Ben and his kitty will go home today.

Scared Me To Bits!

Eeeek! Hubby left to go run some errands, and a little while later, I was looking for Stanley. Of course, he doesn’t come yet when you call him, so I was searching and searching. Every nook and cranny, all his favorite sleeping spots. No kitty! Then I went and looked around outside, thinking perhaps he snuck out when hubby left, cause he’s quick like a fox! But of course, I couldn’t see him. I retraced all my steps about 4 times, and no kitty!! It doesn’t help that he can’t meow either. All he can do is squeak! Finally, as a last ditch effort, I checked the front hall closet, and sure enough, there he was sitting on the shoe shelf, looking rather pitiful! Whew!

I am taking him to the vet this afternoon for his first check-up since we found him. I should find out more about his apparent injuries. It seems that his tail has been broken, or cut off near the end. He has an odd bump on his hip, and he can not meow. Who could ever be mean to this little baby deserves a very nasty encounter in their lives too! Grrrrrrr
