Blah! I have been home sick in bed for 2 days. I’m not impressed! This adorable child is the most likely germ infested little culprit that shared his disease with me. Oh well… for all the flus and diseases I’ve been around this year, I’ve escaped unscathed until now, so I’ve been pretty lucky!
In good news, this little guy’s sister was diagnosed this fall with adre*nal gland can*cer, after a bout with the “flu”. In fact, she nearly died the night after she was admitted to the hospital where Sarah works. She’s been going through treatments since then. The good news was that the tumour shrunk dramatically enough that they were able to go in and remove the tumour and one kidney. They’ll let her recover some, and then she’ll have a stem cell transplant. Her prognosis is pretty good for now, but there is a 50% chance of reoccurance within 3-5 years, and if so, it’s almost always fatal. I guess it’s a better outcome than what they were predicting initially. Through all of her treatments she ended up losing a good majority of her hearing, so she will most likely be one of our students next year, providing her general health is good. Her brother will be in kindergarten next year, so he’ll be in a different school.
In other disturbing news, one of our little boys, who is the cutest, busiest, charismatic little guy you’d ever meet, had a custody hearing yesterday. He is a foster child, and his foster parents want to adopt him. BUT they only want to if it is a closed adoption. If it can’t be, then they will “give up”, as they don’t want to put him through 5 years of court and limbo. Can you IMAGINE??? OMG! He calls them Mommy and Daddy, and has a little “brother” (another foster child they adopted), and he loves them, he loves all of us and he’s just 3 years old. How on earth can they do this to these kids?? Not to mention the adults? I just dread going to work on Monday to find if he is still “with us”, or not.
Sarah came and met me for lunch on Wednesday, and as I wasn’t quite completely diseased by then, we made plans that she would drive down and pick up Mom, take her over to tour her condo, and then come and pick me up after work, and go over so Mom and I could tour my brother’s condo. Then I was going to drive Mom home. Needless to say, I had to bail, and Sarah went ahead and got her anyways. They had a nice day, and Mom LOVED the condo. She also was really impressed with my brother’s place.
I think by tomorrow, I’ll feel good enough to get a few things done around here, at least I hope so. I’m starting to get a bit squirelly! I know hubby loves his new job, and I’m very glad of that after 30 years of doing the same type of thing, but I’m getting tired of the fact that he works from home 50% of the time! I am used to this man being gone from 6:30 - 6:30 Mon-Sat. Wednesdays off, and working every third Sunday, and until 11:00 pm on Thursday nights. Now, he’s here all the DAMN time!!! Even on the weekends! He may have to go do some tours or whatever on the weekend, but most of the time he’s able to work from home. When I feel ambitious, I like to clean when I’m home alone. Not around someone! I don’t like to have to be all yakkity-squakity when I first get home from work either, as I’m used to coming home to an empty house, and having a couple hours to unwind, and get dinner going. I guess this is just another thing I have to get used to, as well as an “empty nest”. I have to say, that many days, it’s not quite EMPTY enough!!!
