Teapot

I bought this pink teapot on EBay for Sarah for her birthday, and it arrived like this yesterday. It was well packaged, and the box didn’t appear to be damaged, so I have no idea how it happened, but it did. Of course I didn’t buy the insurance, but the woman is great, and she’s trying to find another like it, and then just charge me the shipping.

Ben got home safe and sound from his birthday weekend with Jess. He got a tattoo. It’s 2 wavy lines on his wrist… zodiac sign for Aquarius. It’s actually pretty nifty looking. Jessica got a little dove on her back.

School went well yesterday. I was feeling pretty good. We don’t have school today, as it’s a PD day. Next week there’s only 3 days of school, and a 4 day weekend. Works for me!

Happy Birthday to My “Baby” Boy

My “little” 6′3″ baby boy turns 19 years old today! Ben is currently in Kel*owna visiting Jess. He flew out there to surprise her. For all the “concerns” we’ve had about Ben (mostly academically) over the years, he’s turning out to be a wonderful young man!

He’s friendly, outgoing, crazy funny, and LOVES his work as a carpenter. He has a beautiful, wonderful, equally funny girlfriend, and he’s turning out to be a very mature, responsible and considerate roommate to his sister Sarah. (who knew?) He and Jay also get along famously, and are just like brothers (which neither of them has ever had).

Anyway……Happy Birthday!

Home Sick In Bed

Blah! I have been home sick in bed for 2 days. I’m not impressed! This adorable child is the most likely germ infested little culprit that shared his disease with me. Oh well… for all the flus and diseases I’ve been around this year, I’ve escaped unscathed until now, so I’ve been pretty lucky!

In good news, this little guy’s sister was diagnosed this fall with adre*nal gland can*cer, after a bout with the “flu”. In fact, she nearly died the night after she was admitted to the hospital where Sarah works. She’s been going through treatments since then. The good news was that the tumour shrunk dramatically enough that they were able to go in and remove the tumour and one kidney. They’ll let her recover some, and then she’ll have a stem cell transplant. Her prognosis is pretty good for now, but there is a 50% chance of reoccurance within 3-5 years, and if so, it’s almost always fatal. I guess it’s a better outcome than what they were predicting initially. Through all of her treatments she ended up losing a good majority of her hearing, so she will most likely be one of our students next year, providing her general health is good. Her brother will be in kindergarten next year, so he’ll be in a different school.

In other disturbing news, one of our little boys, who is the cutest, busiest, charismatic little guy you’d ever meet, had a custody hearing yesterday. He is a foster child, and his foster parents want to adopt him. BUT they only want to if it is a closed adoption. If it can’t be, then they will “give up”, as they don’t want to put him through 5 years of court and limbo. Can you IMAGINE??? OMG! He calls them Mommy and Daddy, and has a little “brother” (another foster child they adopted), and he loves them, he loves all of us and he’s just 3 years old. How on earth can they do this to these kids?? Not to mention the adults? I just dread going to work on Monday to find if he is still “with us”, or not. :(

Sarah came and met me for lunch on Wednesday, and as I wasn’t quite completely diseased by then, we made plans that she would drive down and pick up Mom, take her over to tour her condo, and then come and pick me up after work, and go over so Mom and I could tour my brother’s condo. Then I was going to drive Mom home. Needless to say, I had to bail, and Sarah went ahead and got her anyways. They had a nice day, and Mom LOVED the condo. She also was really impressed with my brother’s place.

I think by tomorrow, I’ll feel good enough to get a few things done around here, at least I hope so. I’m starting to get a bit squirelly! I know hubby loves his new job, and I’m very glad of that after 30 years of doing the same type of thing, but I’m getting tired of the fact that he works from home 50% of the time! I am used to this man being gone from 6:30 - 6:30 Mon-Sat. Wednesdays off, and working every third Sunday, and until 11:00 pm on Thursday nights. Now, he’s here all the DAMN time!!! Even on the weekends! He may have to go do some tours or whatever on the weekend, but most of the time he’s able to work from home. When I feel ambitious, I like to clean when I’m home alone. Not around someone! I don’t like to have to be all yakkity-squakity when I first get home from work either, as I’m used to coming home to an empty house, and having a couple hours to unwind, and get dinner going. I guess this is just another thing I have to get used to, as well as an “empty nest”. I have to say, that many days, it’s not quite EMPTY enough!!!

Terms of Endearment

There was an old guy wandering around the supermarket calling out, “Tender Flake, Oh Tennnderrrflaaaake!” Soon a store clerk approached, “Sir, the baking goods are in Aisle D.” The old gentleman replied, “Oh, I’m not looking for the baking stuff, I’m calling my wife.” “Your wife’s name is Tenderflake?” The old man answered, “Oh, no, no, no. I only call her that when we’re out in public.” The store clerk asked, “Well, what do you call her when you are at home?” The old man replied, “Lard Ass.”

I Can’t Believe This Winter!!

This weather is just BIZARRE! Today, it was over 55 degrees Farenheit outside! Obviously, normally, we have snow up the whazoo, blizzards, biting, ass-numbing cold, etc, because after all, it is WINTER, and we’re in CANADA!!! Today, was not only so crazy warm, it was also very sunny out. It was a gorgeous day. We took the kids outside to play in the park. It was wonderful!! The kids had a ball!

Last nights meeting of the “in-laws” went really well!! They are very nice people, easy to talk to, and we got along great! A good time was had by all! UNTIL…….the meal turned into something belonging on “Meet the Folkers!”…this dumb ass (being me), walked in on Mr. S in the MEN’S washroom at the restaurant! DUH!!! Anyways, we had a chuckle over it, (he was finished his business thank Gawd!) and I went into the ladies room, where I ran into Sarah, and reported my faux pas. She was horrified!!! “MOTHER!!” But… all was good. Except the damn Fla*mes won, and we played like POO!

Another Weekend Has Come and Gone

Today, as planned, we were pretty lazy around here. Ben came out for the afternoon, and to eat and do laundry. He’s doing really well. Very excited about his raise and going to school.

I talked to Sarah on MSN this morning. Her and Jay are at the Nickleback concert tonight. She won tickets on the floor on a local radio station. She was spending the day cleaning her condo like crazy because Jay’s parents are coming in tomorrow, and are stopping by for a tour. Then, his folks, Sarah and Jay, hubby and I, and Ben are all going out for dinner, and then to the Oilers game. (Jay’s Mom is not going). Sarah and Jay bought his dad, and hubby, tickets to tomorrow nights game for Christmas. Ben is coming with me. Should be fun.
