What a Surprise!
We were just sitting around this morning having coffee, hubby was reading, when the phone rang. It was his district manager. She was phoning to tell him he did extremely well in the tests he went down to Calgary to write a few weeks ago, and how would he like to have the job of coordinating and overseeing the conversion to Lifestyle Safeways of all Safeway stores in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northern Ontario. He instantly accepted as there’s no move involved. He’ll just be travelling a lot. She gave him the number of his new boss to call (it’s his previous district manager, so they have a very good working relationship) and he’s just waiting now for him to return his call to find out the length of the assignment, the wage, bonus potential etc.
It’s a good time in our lives for him to take this kind of job, because our kids are all grown now and hubby wants to work about another 8 years and then retire. We’ve heard rumor that this job would last 3 years, so that would leave him only 5 more years back in the store when he was finished. The deciding factor will be the wage. Right now hubby is near the top of the manager’s pay scale and has the potential to earn a $30,000 bonus each year (however near impossible that usually is to attain). So, we’re just curious to see if they offer only his current base salary, or if they will give him a raise to take into account the bonus potential that he’s giving up.
Regardless, he is one happy and excited camper! Isn’t it strange? Sarah starts her new job on August 8, and is totally thrilled. I start my new assignment August 29, and am super excited, and Hubby starts on Monday if he accepts it. Ben’s job is still relatively new, and he’s way excited because they’re building their first house from the ground up!
Jess has moved here, and she’ll be living with her aunt and uncle and cousin (who dates Ben’s best friend), who live 2 blocks away. She’s going to start job hunting today. She needs to work in our little town out here because she doesn’t have a car yet. She should be able to get a job at the local grocery stores. Ben’s pretty happy to not have to do the long-distance thing any more!
Congrats on hubby’s job, and I just love what you have done with the place~
