Happy Halloween

That means pretty much nothing to me. Halloween was lots of fun as a kid, simply because it was the one time of year we got to eat extra candy! As we were older, it was fun, because we’d tour around neighboring farms, and play silly tricks. BUT, it’s never been a big deal here in Canada overall.

This year, no Jack 0′Lantern, no decorations, no nothing at all (as Nick would say). Hubby will hand out candy, as this is one of the first years he’s been around t do so. Usually he’s at work. He’s off picking up a few groceries, and he’s going to BBQ a steak dinner, he’s picking up my all time creepiest movie ever, “The Birds”, and Sarah and I will watch that once she rises. Ben works, so that’s all that’s going on around here pretty much!

Scooby Doo

This is Nick. He’s Scoob, because it’s his favorite, latest movie obsession. He had lots of fun. The little elephant is Nick’s little brother Evan. He is in kindergarten. He’s soooo tiny! He is not autistic.

Nick came just flying into the school this morning, carrying his swimming things, and his costume. “Happy Halloween Bev!” We had a good day. The school got a new projector for the computer lab, so they brought it into the gym and showed “Home on the Range” movie to the kids after the parade. They projected it up onto the gym wall which was simply covered with white paper and it looked fantastic! I couldn’t believe the quality of the picture and the sound. Was just like a theater. The kids had a blast, and it took up most of the afternoon, so there was limited time for a sugar fest!

Hubby and Ben went to the Road Runners game and out to dinner last night, so Sarah, her friend Jenny and I had Chinese food, and the girls watched a movie while I watched 3rd Watch, and Medical Investigation. I crashed pretty early! I was the tiredest I’ve been in a while!

There’s no real plans for the weekend, most of the housework is finished, I’ll have laundry to do of course, but not too much else. Monday is a PD day, so no school for me. I might think of some project to get going around here, but time will tell!

Good Job!

Nick did an awesome job with his part in the assembly. Several people clapped after he did his little bit, just because they know the history of Nick. He looked for me out in the audience, and I gave him the thumbs up, and he gave me the thumbs up and says, “Good Job!” loud enough for all to hear. LMAO His Mom was so proud of him! It’s days like this that make the days like yesterday worth it.

Tonight was Doreen’s retirement dinner. It was fun to see them. I got home around 9:00… just in time to watch Survivor. Tomorrow we go swimming, have a movie in the gym in the afternoon, and then parties in the home rooms. I don’t do the costume thing, as I have a pair of pumpkin pajama pants I wear instead!

Full Moon Be Damned!

Accckk!! Today was the shits! Nick was a little bugger today! I had to carry him out kicking and screaming and slapping and trying to bite. Took him about 45 minutes to settle down. Later on we had assembly practice, and the whole grade 2 class was spastic! Even the “quiet, docile” kids couldn’t stand still! It was NUTS! We have to do it for real tomorrow. I can’t imagine what Nick is going to pull! Today he was standing with his hands down his pants, picking his nose, and when he wasn’t doing that, he was laying down and humming. Then when it was his turn to speak, he grabbed the mike, and uttered something unintelligible, and then began shouting into it, “Please do you have a blue cup??!!” (this is a line from a story we love reading and laughing over together The day just went from bad to worse! ugh!

In other news, hubby got the laundry room (just off the family room) carpet ripped up, a new sub floor put in, and new tile installed. Now ALL the flooring is finished at last! I do want to paint that room as well, as it’s the only part that didn’t get painted this summer, but hubby was in a hurry to put the appliances back in there, so I’ll figure out how to do it at a later date!

Tomorrrow is Doreen’s retirement beer and pizza night. It starts at 4:30. I got an email from her tonight, asking if I wanted to meet her and Amy at 3:30 before everyone else comes. I just wrote back, “Ill be there with fucking bells on!” Ha! It will be lots of fun to see those 2 old boots, but will also make it even more obvious how things have changed! *sniff*

I’m going to have to break down and get to the doctor soon. My knee is a MESS! Most days I’m just about in tears, and can hardly walk by the days’ end. My celebrex doesn’t seem to be doing any good any more either. Really sucks. I just feel way too young in the “mind” to have my body fall apart already. I was an avid exerciser, and have worked out 5-6 days/week for years until I injured myself last year. Now it’s so very hard to find anything that I can do that doesn’t bugger me up even worse. Of course, this leads to weight gain, which depresses me, which makes me eat more, which makes me gain more, which makes my knee hurt more, and so on, and so on……

Phoenetic Screw Up

I was marking some phonics work sheets in the grade 2 room, while Nick was working quietly (for once). One of the sheets had a picture of a shirt with a small blob on it, with an arrow pointing to said blob. The letters under the picture were s _ o t the correct answer being spot. Needless to say, Cody made an oops! He put snot! ROFLMAO We had quite the laugh in the staff room over that one!

Sunday Brunch (on Monday)

Parents

“Parents are often so busy with the physical rearing of children that they miss the glory of parenthood, just as the grandeur of the trees is lost when raking leaves.” -Marcelene Cox

1) What do your parents do for a living?
My Mom is a retired nurse, and my Dad passed away nearly 10 years ago. For most of their years, they were dairy farmers.

2) How old were your parents when you were born?
My Mom was 25, and my Dad was 33.

3) What is the most important lesson that you learned from your parents?
Always be there for your kids, and have fun with your kids. Be involved with their activities.

4) What is the harshest discipline that you ever received from your parents?
I was a good kid, and I moved away to boarding school when I was 16, and took my own apartment after graduation, so any trouble I got into, I got into away from home, so I don’t recall any harsh discipline. I do remember the threatof a “licking” every once in a while for fighting with my brother, but I don’te remember them ever really happening.

5) What is the thing that you are the most grateful to your parents for?
For giving me a well rounded childhood, full of sports, family, church, and responsibility. Instilling a strong sense of independence in me.

Busy Week Ahead

Today was lumpy as planned, maybe too much so, as I was even BORED! Oh well makes me not mind going to work tomorrow. Just as well, as this week will be very hectic! Monday to Wednesday are fairly calm, but Thursday night is Doreen’s Beer and pizza retirement party, Friday morning we take our class swimming, and then it’s the Halloween activities (BLECH) Friday afternoon. At least the Monday is a PD day, so I have the day off. At least the weather is supposed to be a tiny bit better so that will definitely help matters!

The SUN Actually Shone For a While!

I got a ton of things done today! I got most of the housework finished, some beds changed, all but 1 load of laundry finished, washed all the floors, did all the paint touch ups (FINALLY), showered, and now I’m just being a lump, and intend to continue that mode for most of the rest of the weekend. Hubby actually has tomorrow off, so I’m sure he’ll be into lump mode as well!
