First day of Unemployment

Today being my first day of unemployment, I was awakened at 5:30 am by Ben grabbing my big toe (that’s how he’s woke me up since he was a wee one), to tell me his truck wouldn’t start again! I guess it worked for one day! So he had to take my car. Sarah got home from working night shift at 8:00 am (with a Timmy’s coffee for Mom), so I drove her car to the mechanic’s and got a ride back home from the secretary.

I put on a bikini top, and my nasty ass painting shorts and dragged out my painting supplies and the sander, and sanded and oiled all our teak patio furniture. I want to do the top of the table one more time and then it will all be good to go. I got hubby to pick up some paint for plastic, and my next little project will be washing, and painting all the white plastic lawn furniture that we have.

After I finished I laid out in the sun for a while and finished my book, and I guess I sunburned my back. I came in and cleaned up and passed out for a while.

Sarah’s gone out with a friend for the evening, and Ben has gone to a buddy’s cabin for the night, so it’s quiet around here. Hubby was golfing (poor thing), so he’s wiped too.

Auto Update

Well the good news is, my car is finished and ready, as I explained earlier, and Ben’s truck is all fixed. Ben’s buddy got it going this afternoon. They managed to fix it for $100, so that was a huge saving!

I’ll follow Sarah in her car on Wednesday to the mechanics, and soon hers will be good to go again too. Thank Goodness! We all have to commute to work and all work different hours, so it gets very COMPLICATED when our vehicles are not going.

Painting and more painting!

Can you imagine that 3 of our 4 vehicles were pretty much out of commission today? Ben’s truck has been “broken” for 5 days or more, and he and his buddy are working on it, and hopefully get that going again. My car just DIED last night as Ben was driving home last night. Sarah’s overheats whenever she idles. Damn! So I had to drive hubby to work this morning, and then take his Jeep to work. I gave Ben’s buddy some extra gas money to give Ben a ride to work this afternoon. My car is ready, so I stopped and picked up the keys, and paid for it. Hubby and Ben will pick it up when hubby goes to pick up Ben tonight after work. Sarah has offered to go pick up hubby at work right now, so I managed to not have to do near as much driving as was initially thought! Sarah’s car goes in Wednesday to get fixed.

I got to work and started sanding shelves at 7:30 this morning. We got all the shelves primed, and painted. We have a second coat to do on a cupboard, and the cubbies, and then it’s all done. It looks fabulous! So clean and spiffy! And all the same color, instead of 4 different colors, but it’s 90 degrees here today, and no air conditioning in our school, so I was hot and sweaty and sick of the STINK by the time I left at 3:30! My arm was also not in good shape after 7 hours of rolling! Ouchie! I got home, hopped in the shower, and now I’m going to be a LUMP!

Tomorrow will just be the last of the painting, and then putting things back into some kind of order. Clearing out some of my personal things, and that’s about it! Then it’s “Hello Unemployment!”

Beautiful Saturday

The weather is fantastic today! I got an early start to the day. Ran into the city to get some dirt for my “flower bed expansion”, did some other errands, and got all twisted up in road detours and construction. BLEH!

I got home and dumped all the dirt in and shovelled it around and planted 10 big geraniums in there. I consider my part of the project finished. Ben wants to put some stone edging along it, and I want them to fill it up with mulch, but otherwise it’s a done deal.

Yesterday’s last day of school was fairly crazy of course. It seems that we will not be getting the little boy that doesn’t speak next year. He will go to a neighboring school that has full kindergarten programs. Then if they’re still around the next year, he will be in our program. It’s all about money and funding. Not about what’s best for this little boy.

Oh well….2 days of painting, and I’m DONE!

One More Day

Shelves are now emptied at school, ready for priming and painting (Floss Flower Blue) on Monday and Tuesday, and hopefully they will be dry and ready to get all the books back in order before we leave for the summer on Tuesday.

We met a possible new student yesterday. You peeps would not believe him. You just wouldn’t! He’s six years old, has hair down to his shoulders. He has NO speech, and he’s NEVER been to school. All he does is grunt and cry/scream, etc. He’s just like he’s been raised by wolves! You see his mother and you “get it”! I wouldn’t doubt that they’ve spent some time living in a crack house, and or a cardboard box under a bridge. It’s the Grandpa that’s moving heaven and earth to finally get this boy into the school system, and start finding out why he has no speech. Should be a noisey old time next year with Nick and this new little guy (if he actually shows up).

We’re also waiting to hear if we are getting a new little 6 years old girl with Down Syndrome. She also has no speech. Sounds like we’ll really be giving our sign language skills a workover, which is a good thing. We haven’t had a student to sign to for about 3 years. I’m going to be bringing my sign language books home over summer to practice up just in case!

Well hubby just walked in with my Mushroom burger, so I’m outta here. I’m so tired, I’m like a rag doll!!

3 Days

Today was another nice day. We moved all kinds of huge cupboards and cabinets, etc this morning trying to organize our classroom some more. We cleaned out so much unused junk from the room, that we were able to downsize some cabinets, and open things up a bit.

We went out to a Chinese food buffet for lunch. It was good. I’m not liking the reality that Amy and likely Doreen are not coming back. Makes me feel very sad.

Hubby is going golfing tomorrow, and then heads down to Calgary again for another business trip. He’s going down this time to do some interviews I believe.

Ben finished digging the flower bed extension, now we just have to get a load of dirt to fill it in a bit, I’ve got the flowers sitting here to plant in it, and then we’ll add some mulch. After that part is finished, Ben want’s to do the edge with some paving stones, and then he wants to to a real makeover on the fire pit. I’m thnking he’s planning on having some parties in the backyard this summer. Hmmmm

4 More Days

I’m so glad it’s nearly the end of school! Not because I don’t want to work any more, not because I’m sick of my co-workers, or Nick, or most of the kids, but there is one kid I can not tolerate any more!!! GAWD! He has now officially used up his quota of patience with me! That’s all I’ll say about that, other than he is one of our grade 6 students, so he WILL be going to another school next year.

It’s a beautiful day today. Hopefully the wind doesn’t pick up again! I’ve already been out and watered and fertilized all my flowers. I love the quiet of early mornings, before all the SCREAMING neighbor children get up! I think it’s time for us to move to an over 40 community, as the children around us that can’t play without screaming are driving us crazy!!! Up at the buttcrack of dawn on Saturdays, outside SCREAMING! Grrr I wonder if those parents would think it was the same diff if my 17 & 21 year olds were out partying in the backyard at 2:00 am. Hmmmmm… thinking police would be called. Doesn’t seem right to me.

Today, Hazel, Doreen and I are taking Amy out for lunch. *sniff* This is getting all too real for me suddenly. Last Friday, we went and bought her a beautiful set of patio dishes. We found out who her replacement is. She should be pretty good I think. Last year I would have quit (seriously) if she would have been coming in our room, but I’ve gotten to know her better, and she’s not as bad as I thought. But now, word got out that Doreen might quit as well, and the name that is coming up as her replacement, FRIGHTENS me!!! Grrr! However, the lady that Hazel requested also might get it, and she’s subbed in our room a couple of times, and she’d be great. Nice and quiet, and easy going. The other one does not like working with special needs kids (Ohhhhhh there’s a problem!), she’s opinionated, she’s outspoken, and she thinks she’s a bit above the rest of the world, won’t clean puke, won’t clean shit)……hmmm maybe she’d just be the princess!
