A Day In the Sauna

I don’t know if I’ve whined about it in the past (although I can’t imagine that I haven’t), but we nearly freeze our KNICKERS off in our classroom in the winter! We have been complaining to administration for YEARS. Usually all winter, it’s at best 62 degrees in our room.

Well today on the last day of May, that all changed!! For reasons unknown to mankind, the furnaces blasted on high all weekend. When I got to school this morning, it was exactly 110 degrees in our classroom! Every window in the building was open, we had 5 fans going all day, and still at the day’s end, we were all red-faced, tired, headachey and BLAH!

Go figure!

The Reason Click to Listen
by Hoobastank
I’m not a perfect person
There’s many things I wish I didn’t do
But I continue learning
I never meant to do those things to you
And so I have to say before I go
That I just want you to know

I’ve found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is you

I’m sorry that I hurt you
It’s something I must live with everyday
And all the pain I put you through
I wish that I could take it all away
And be the one who catches all your tears
Thats why i need you to hear

I’ve found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is You [x4]

I’m not a perfect person
I never meant to do those things to you
And so I have to say before I go
That I just want you to know

I’ve found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is you

I’ve found a reason to show
A side of me you didn’t know
A reason for all that I do
And the reason is you

We Made Mom Cry

nick_speedy.jpg

Nick wore his caterpillar hat. He stood on the stage, and recited every word of the poem with his class. He did a few of the actions, and when he was done, I pointed out to him that Mom was sitting there in the gym watching. She was crying just a few tears. When I got over there, she is covering Nick’s face with kisses, and she said to me, “That’s the first time I’ve seen him on stage!”

That 5 minutes of my week, made all the bad things just disappear, and made it all worthwhile.

20 Days and COUNTING

There are only 20 days of school left now! Whoo Hoo! I’m so glad! I just hope we get summer weather soon! This has been a challenging, yet rewarding year for me. Challenging, for obvious reasons. Working with Nick is like working with a ticking time bomb. Even when he’s behaving you can never really relax because you just don’t know how long it’s going to last! Rewarding, because he’s come so far!!! He’s doing things we never thought he’d be able to do this quickly! He wrote the regular grade one math test, and I’ve marked it, but didn’t add up his grade. I gave it to the teacher to finish grading. I suspect he’s in the 70% range. He’s not far behind grade level in reading either! I’ve been doing some testing with him on “everything”, and for a boy who hardly spoke, his receptive language is not bad at all, while his biggest delay is in his expressive language. Ex: if you tell him to touch his elbow, he can, but if you touch your elbow and ask him what you are touching, he likely can’t answer you. He’s gone on swimming trips every month without a problem (last year not allowed to go at all), he’s gone to the rodeo and the carnival for the first time EVER, with wonderful behaviour, and so much fun, and he’s gone to the symphony (oops….. 2 out of 3 ain’t bad!) His behaviour is pretty darn good, about 2/3’s of the time now, and is S L O W L Y learning the rules of good behaviour. All in all, a good year for Nick and I, I’d say!

I’m hoping that after tomorrow, the principal gets a list of the special need kids that will be in our class next year. I also hope she confirms our positions and assignments for next year. Will help me make some decisions as to what I want to do next year!

How Was Your Day?

Before 9:00 am my little man had been hauled to the “Thinking Spot” for screaming “NEVER!!!” and/or “I Don’t FINK so!” every time, he was asked to do something. When he had finally settled down and I opened the door to ask him if he was “ready” to go to work, I was greeted by the sight of a totally NUDE Nick, with his undershorts hanging on the door knob! Hmmm!

How was your day!?

Nice Spring Day

It’s a long weekend here, so today was a day off for all of us except Ben. He went out to a friend’s cabin last night and spent the night, and came home feeling none too HEALTHY! Yes folks, he is experiencing his first hangover, complete with “I’m never drinking again!” I’m afraid the boy has taken after me in terms of the hangovers! Father and daughter never get “sick”. Ben is green as Kermit today! Blech! I’m having a sympathy hangover! He has to get up in 20 minutes and suck it up and go to work.

Hubby and I went for a 30 minute brisk walk yesterday, and then again today. I did 30 minutes of weight work afterwards, both days. Today got all the housework finished while he went and picked up a few groceries. Then I had a well - needed shower and some lunch, and I haven’t done much since, because as you know……I have a hangover now!

Grad Pictures

I finally got all of Ben’s Grad pictures into the photo album, resized and semi-organized. I still don’t have any captions done, but they wouldn’t mean anything to any of you anyways.
