Friday Five

the friday five

1. What was your first Halloween costume?
I think my Mom had me dressed up as a skeleton (which wasn’t much of a stretch in those days!)

2. What was your best costume and why?
My best costume was a big YELLOW CHICKEN. I dressed up as a chicken my first year at this job, and had a hoot!!! None of the kids knew it was me, as we told them I went home sick…..all the little “cats” were chasing me, I was dancing and acting like an ass…….something you can do when you’re in disguise!

3. Did you ever play a trick on someone who didn’t give you a treat?
Oh yeah….as kids growing up on the farm, we moved a stack of bales right in front of the front door of some stingy folks!

4. Do you have any Halloween traditions? (ie: Family pumpkin carving, special dinner before trick or treating, etc.)
No time for traditions around here. We’ve always done the jack-o-lantern thing, but that’s it. It’s not a big deal around here.

5. Share your favorite scary story…real or legend!
I don’t really have one, but the one thing I remember the most about Halloween as a kid, was my Dad hiding out in the trees by the lane, waiting patiently for his hockey team (teen boys) to show up late every year to play tricks. Most years he’d scare the shit out of them!!! Was a real hoot! Dad was always up for a good prank!

Life as an Albertan

1. “Vacation” means going to Calgary for the weekend.
2. You measure distance in hours.
3. You often switch from “heat” to “A/C” in the same day.
4. You know several people who have hit deer more than once.
5. You use a down comforter in the summer.
6. Your grandparents drive at 100 km/h through four meters of snow during a blizzard, without flinching.
7. You carry jumper cables in your car and your girlfriend knows how to use them.
8. You design your kid’s Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.
9. Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled.
10. You know both seasons: Winter and construction.
11. You are bundled up in three sweaters, a parka, ski pants, a touque, two pairs of mittens, boots past your knees in 3 feet of snow in a -35 (-8000 with the windchill) blizzard, your eyelashes are frozen together, your nose is running, you can’t feel your toes, and you still stop at 7Eleven for a Slurpee on the way home.
12. You actually understand these jokes and forward them to all your friends from Alberta.

Just GREAT!

Piss me off! We got a blizzard last night. It’s cold, snowy, and the roads are glare ice! Yuck! I took the Jeep to work today, so that was better. I’m so NOT ready for winter driving, temperatures and snow.

BLAHHHH

I’ve had a dull headache and moderately stiff neck for the better part of 2 weeks now. I’ve had dizziness, and some stomach upset along with it. A touch of the flu I guess. There’s so much of it going around! I’m not sick enough to stay home from work, but not healthy enough to feel up to doing too much more than going to work! I’m waiting right now for a phone call from work. Hannibal was very sick yesterday. Poor little guy had a fever and headache, and slept for 3 hours until Mom picked him up. If he stays home today, I am staying home as well. I’ll go in if he comes to school. If he’s away I’ll take advantage of it and stay put.

**added** I’m staying home.

Restful Weekend

I had a nice, relaxing weekend, and feel a little bit more rested going into the work week. I’ve still got this dull headache and stiff neck, that I’ve had for 2 weeks. If that would piss off, I’d be feeling pretty good!

I did very little yesterday. I took care of some eBay auctions and did some eBay Christmas shopping. We went to the Oilers game last night. They played like a bunch of Pee Wees! There were 3 fights in the first 34 seconds of the game!! It was wrestlemania!

Today I got up bright and early (thanks to the time change), and got busy doing a grocery list for hubby, got the laundry going, and started the housework. I got all my auctions ready for shipping and since then, I’ve been taking it easy. Hubby is BBQing dinner, so I’m off the hook for that. Ben’s been at work all day, but will be home soon, and Sarah just started work, so it’s always busy around here!

Work will be a nightmare this week I expect with Halloween!! I’m just so glad that it is on a Friday! Whew!

A week gone by

As usual, I’m glad to see the work week come to an end. All in all it was a good week, however stressful. Nick had a pretty good week, even through swimming today. I just wish I could get him to stop hitting! Today he nearly took out my contact when he hit me in the eye! Little shit!

Ben realized the ERROR of his ways. He broke up with his girlfriend completely out of the blue 2 weeks ago. He realized that he really missed hanging out with her, so they’ve gotten hooked back up. He got a call-back for a job he applied for as a snowboard instructor at the local ski hill. He has his second interview on Monday. He’s pretty excited about it!! He’d love to be able to quit his job at the grocery store.

We have an Oiler’s game to go to tomorrow night. I sure hope they play better than they did last night! Yuck!! I myself don’t plan to do too much. Of course I say that, and then get feeling guilty and start running around like a chicken with my head cut off.

One of our students answered…

“It’s when the soldiers jump out of their holes!!”

Was he talking about the war in Iraq? Afghanistan?

Girl’s Night Out

Two women friends had gone for a girl’s night out, but had been decidedly over enthusiastic on the Bacardi Breezers. Incredibly drunk and walking home they needed to pee, so they stopped in the cemetery. One of them had nothing to wipe with so she thought she would take off her panties and use them. Her friend however was wearing a rather expensive pair of panties and did not want to ruin them, but was lucky enough to salvage a large ribbon from a wreath that was on one of the graves, and she proceeded to wipe with that. After the girls did their business they proceeded to go home.

The next day one of the women’s husbands phoned the other husband and said, ” These damn girls nights have to stop. My wife came home with no panties.” ” That’s nothing. ” said the other husband , ” Mine came back with a card stuck between the crack of her ass that said ‘ From all of us at the Fire Station. We will never forget you ! “
