Sarah’s going to college!

Exciting news!

Well my darling daughter made it! She’s been accepted into the 4 year nursing program at Grant McKewan college! She will do 2 years out of Wainwright, and then transfer back here to the University of Alberta to get her degree. She’s pretty excited. She starts in 2 weeks! If she had the marks, she’d be attending here, but since her marks aren’t all that, and there are waiting lists up the ying-yang for nursing programs all over the province (they just signed a new contract, and start at $38/hour), it is VERY competitive! So, she applied for a student loan yesterday. Her dad and I will pay for her tuition, and books, and car insurance just as we would if she was attending locally. She’s going to take the loan to pay for the additional expenses of attending a rural delivery program. She only has to physically be in Wainwright 3 days/week for video conferencing, labs, etc, as much of it is done online, as distance ed. We’re hoping just to find her a cheap place for room and board a couple days/week. We’re also hoping she works a little harder when it’s “her” money. If I’m absent in the next couple of weeks you’ll know why! She starts school August 28, and has a bizillion things to do before then! I go back to work that day as well, so pitter patter, let’s get at ‘er!!

Sad Day:

Today marks the one year anniversary of one of Sarah’s best friends death. Jason and 4 of Sarah’s friends were returning from a trip to Kelowna, BC in two vehicles when the car Jason was a passenger in went into to the oncoming lane of traffic and was struck. Sarah was at home with her cousin Amy, waiting for Jay and Steve to get back, as they had made plans to go to a movie that night. I made this website as a tribute to him and for a place for the kids to visit. The way this fine young man’s death rocked these kids’ world has just been indescribable! Many of them will never be the same.
