Tuesday

Yesterday Sarah’s final transcript of high school marks came in the mail. She bombed her Social Studies 30 diploma exam for the second time. I don’t know what the high school system is like where you live, but this just completely bites. The ONLY year of school that means a thing is grade 12. AND those silly departmental diploma exams are worth 70% of your final mark. So basically everything you do for 3 years is just summed up on one test! In Sarah’s case this means bad news, as she’s LOUSY at taking tests. She does extremely well in the written response portion and bombs the multiple choice (if you can imagine)… she over thinks them to death and can’t make up her mind between the 2 “best” possible choices. It’s my Mom’s fault…. she said she was exactly the same way! Ughh.

Clean up day

Well our little town made the 6:00 o’clock Edmonton news tonight. Seems many basements have flooded again. We had a major problem with this about 5 years ago. The town claimed to have rectified the problem, apparently they were wrong! We don’t have a flooding problem, as our town is on a big hill (the name of the town means Good Hill in French…. WTF??) and we live on the highest point of the hill… our water runs down to the poor devils at the bottom of the hill. I saw several Flood and Fire Restoration trucks racing by the house this afternoon so I pretty much guessed what was going on around town again. One of Ben’s buddies phoned and asked for a bed, as his is a tad soggy.

I had a totally productive day today (odd for me with this type of weather!) Ben and I got busy cleaning this morning before he had to go to hockey practice. Then once he left, I turned up the stereo and listened to the heavenly sounds of Charlotte Church. Her one album is called “Voice Of an Angel” and it’s so true! She has an amazing voice, and to know that it is coming from a 13 year old child is just mind boggling to me! Anyway she just made my heart sing as I cleaned like a possessed woman! This place shines man!!!

Earlier in the week I got started in my annual summer project. Cleaning out the “crawl space”. It’s my most dreaded task of the summer. Worse than my annual trip to the OB/GYN and the slammogram! Our crawl space is actully quite “swanky” as far as they go. It’s got a nice, painted cement floor, and if I stand between the beams I can stand upright, so it makes a great storage place. What I need is a nice, SHORT friend to come and help me! I have to be “STOOPID” the whole time I’m in there, and it takes my back 15 minutes to straighten out once I emerge from there! I hauled out all the clothes stored in there that looked as though they belong in some old wax museum. The kids packed them all out to the car, and then drove them over to the Thrift shop. We also dragged out all kinds of things and started making a pile of broken (some day we’re going to fix it stuff… NOT) to go to the dump. We think that will be hubby’s job on his holidays so as he doesn’t feel too left out. Another pile of stuff is going to be for a garage sale I’m planning on throwing together before September. Then we have our never ending pile of old sports equipment. I have enough old soccer cleats, to field a soccer team for a small third world country. Every size known to man! I could also put skates and hockey equipment on half of Bosnia. I have a few more boxes to go through of old kids’ clothes, and then it’s on to the toys and stuffed animals (God give me strength)! We sold most of the good toys at our last garage sale before we moved, and for that all I can say is Thank God!

I’m listening to Charlotte Church again and chatting with Monty, and Sarah is using the old computer on the network. I just ICQ’d her and asked if she was enjoying my music. The message I got back was “Good God Noooooooooooooooo!”. Then she had the nerve to say, “You’re getting so much like Grandma it is scarey!” Hmmmmph! And just the other day I was listening to Laura’s rehab sound file and Sarah thought I was just the coolest thing! (guess I gotta follow the young mom’s example more often!) Trouble is … I’m old enough to be most of these young mom’s Mom! WAAAAAAAAAAAA I’m so depressed!

Saturday night

We’ve been getting just horrible storms tonight! Pouring rain for hours, hailing (size of grapes), thunder and lightening for a couple of hours, and now the wind has started up too. Just plain nasty!

Linky Love

Today the weather was just goregeous! Ben got the lawn mowed thankfully because it’s now raining again, with severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings.

I finished some tweaking on my BB Graphics redesign first thing this morning, while chatting with a dear friend. This is my friend I mentioned a while back whose 75 year old family farm home (and computer) burned down three months ago. My dear friend has been back now for a couple of weeks, so I have someone to have my morning coffee with again!

After working out, showering, eating lunch and getting dressed, I drove Ben and a friend in to Edmonton to do a bit of shopping. We had a good time. They’re good kids, and for 14-15 year old boys, I think that makes it even better! Ben and Kevin were most insulted to see all the Back-To-School signs up all over the stores! They thought that was a cruel joke, seeing how we have over a month of vacation left!

I bought myself a whole bag of books at Chapters (not one single geek book!) and a set of 10 pound weights at Wally mart. (I know… bet you’re jealous!… you should be! when I started working out, I was using 2 pound weights!) hehehe I also bought all of us new socks. (now you’re really turning green…. I see you!) Seeing how most of my family think that their white athletic socks are shoes, and are to be worn outside when barbequing, or taking out the trash, or fetching the cat, etc, they were getting NASTY… so I stocked up.

When we got home, Ben was met at the door by Smudge!!

Smudge We have no idea who let him out, we’re sure he must have snuck out when Sarah went to work just before we left, but there he was, waiting for us at the back door. Our cats are always harnessed and leashed when they’re outside. They’ve never known any different, they run right to their leashes when we let them out, and they’re very happy that way. There is a cat by-law in our town, so you have to keep your cat in your own yard, same as a dog. In our case, it’s good anyways, as we live on a rather busy street! We couldn’t believe that he was out… and we couldn’t believe he was safe!! (lucky he wasn’t a permanent smudge on the street!)

w w w . b l u e t t e r f l y . n e t has a new addy! So does Out of the Frying Pan.

Feel better soon Gina!
